Starlight Drive In Waching Movies The Old-Fashioned Way
The Starlight Drive In brings back so many memories for me when I go to watch a show there.
I am sure this is true for so many of you who grew up in the era when drive ins were the place to go to enjoy a family outing. I still remember vividly of Mom and Dad packing all of us kids into the back of the station wagon and going to see a double feature of James Bond movies on the big screen. I know...I am showing my age but what great memories! The Starlight Drive In is located just minutes from
Enderby
BC in Canada. People from all around the Okanagan Valley and surrounding areas visit this old-fashioned landmark throughout the summer months. It is about a 25 minute drive from Vernon BC and only an hours drive from
Kelowna BC.
Things You Want To Know About The Starlight Drive In
A visit to the Starlight Drive In is an event in itself. Of course the main attraction are the movies but so much more goes on before the first show begins. It is a good idea to come early, before dusk sets in. The scenery here is beautiful and people just have an all around good time. It is like one big campground where locals and visitors from out of town mingle with each other in a fun atmosphere. There are spots available for motor homes and cars. There is nothing like grabbing your lawn chairs and sitting outside on a warm, summer night with hundreds of other people watching one of the latest movies that has been released. Just one word of advice if you are planning to sit outside of your vehicle. Have a bottle of mosquito repellent handy as those nasty insects are out on some nights. Here are some facts about the Drive In. The Drive In screen is the largest in North America! The screen stands 4.6 m (15 ft) off of the ground. The actual screen is 557.4 square meters (6000 sq. ft.) with it being 15.2 m (50 ft.) high and 36.5 m (120 ft.) wide. It is huge! The drive way gates open 2 hours before the beginning of the first movie. There is always a double feature so be prepared to stay up late. The first film is one that has just been released and the second feature is a movie that has been already running for a few weeks. The price of admission is unbeatable for 2 top films running in theatres around North America! The concession stand has everything you like to munch on and drink when watching a film at a theatre. There is a wide variety of beverages and of course the standard candy, popcorn, and chips. There is the hot dogs, fries, and nachos for the ones who like their food hot. The amazing thing about the Starlight Drive In is that the concession prices are the cheapest of anywhere! The car capacity at this drive in is 547. This is a lot of people when the place is full.
More Drive In Information
Many of you remember the old-fashioned way that we used to listen to the audio at the drive in. Those old speakers on a stand where your car would park next to. I am sure most if not all of the Drive Ins now broadcast directly from your car radio on FM stereo. The thing that is so cool about this now is that you can pick up the soundtrack of the movie on any sort of radio device. Your boombox, Ipod, a walkman, or anything else that picks up the radio will work. The only thing that won't work is a satellite radio. They can interfere with the radio broadcast so you won't be able to use one of these. The box-office and concession usually open one hour before the show begins. The start of the first movie says dusk but you should check each weeks showtime schedule to get exact times. The Drive In opens sometime in early May each year and is open on weekends only until late June. After this date the drive in is open every night until Labour Day (the first Monday in September) here in Canada. And movies play here rain or shine!
