Penticton is one of the most visited cities in the Okanagan and is a tourist's paradise. There is so much to see and to do in this popular vacation spot.

It is the largest city in the South Okanagan. With over 2000 hours of sunshine each year, and with most of this in the summer months, the city swells to almost double its population at this time of year.

I personally make several trips a year to Penticton, BC and I always come away wanting to go back as soon as I can. Any trip you are planning to the Okanagan Valley should include a stop in the fun city!

Penticton sits between two lakes; Okanagan Lake to the north and Skaha Lake to the south. So you get an idea how big watersports is in this area. Any activity you can think of to do with water can be enjoyed in this oasis!

Penticton's famous peach Penticton, B.C. is known as the "Peach" City. As you travel through the city you cannot miss the giant peach sitting on Okanagan Lake Beach.

Many a local and tourist alike have had their picture taken by this famous landmark. It is actually a concession stand selling snacks and ice cream.

So grab your camera and take a great shot of you and your family standing by the "Peach" and add it to your treasured photos from your Okanagan visit.

What is there to do in Penticton, B.C.? The question should be what isn't there to do in this popular city. There is a variety of events and so many places to visit here.

Here is a list that will keep anyone busy. I promise you that if you have kids there will be no mention of "I'm bored" in your stay here!

  • The Beach During those hot summer days there is nothing like heading down to the lake to enjoy the cool, refreshing water. Skaha Beach and Okanagan Beach are two of the more popular spots.

  • Skaha Bluffs Visit this outstanding landmark that is enjoyed by thousands of tourists and locals every year. Rock climbing brings many people here.

    But there is also hiking, parasailing and horseback riding that people love to indulge in here. The "Skaha", as many climbers like to refer to it as, is an outdoors adventure waiting for you!

  • The Domininion Radio Astrophysical Observatory This place is an astronomers dream come true. Take a self-guided tour during daylight hours and listen to informative recorded messagages. It is located just a little south of the city on White Lake Road.

  • The S.S. Sicamous This historic artifact and heritage site sits along the south shorelines of Okanagan Lake. Hop aboard and tour this paddle sternwheeler. A living museum that the whole family will enjoy.

  • Penticton River Channel A favourite summer pastime of both locals and visitors to this Okanagan region. Take a leisurely two hour float starting from Okanagan Lake and ending at Skaha Lake.

    Bring a floating device and your favourite beverage. Oh, and don't forget the hat and sunscreen!

    If you like you can rent an inner tube and catch a ride back to your vehicle with Coyote Cruises . I will tell you from experience that this is fun for the whole family on those real hot days here!

  • Okanagan Amusements Spend a fun filled day at this popular attraction. Open in May of each spring, this amusement park has something for everyone's enjoyment. Go Karts, bumper boats, mini golf, batting cages, and an arcade are all here for you to have a great time!

  • Penticton Golf Like anywhere else in the Okanagan there are several top notch golf courses to play on. I will tell you two of the more popular ones.

    Penticton Golf & Country Club is a challenging 18-hole course located at the north end of the city.

    Skaha Meadows Golf Course is a 9-hole course that is described as both fun and amazing by many a patron that has visited. It is also the only golf course in the entire Okanagan valley that is open year round! Now that is something for the die hard golf fan indeed.

  • The South Okanagan Events Centre opened in the fall of 2008. This fan friendly venue is used for many different events throughout the year.

    If you enjoy hockey there is the B.C. Junior Hockey League Penticton Vees team that plays here from fall through to the spring.

    The centre has also been host to some big name performers. Jan Arden, Rihanna and Carrie Underwood are just a few that have played before excited fans at this spectacular venue. La Frenz Winery overlooking the Naramata Bench

  • Wineries The city has its fair share of Okanagan wineries to visit. Three of the more popular ones are the Red Rooster Winery, the Poplar Grove Winery and La Frenz Winery.

    These are all part of the Naramata Bench wine country. This region is arguably the most scenic wine region in all of North America and has established itself as Canada's premier grape growing region.
