The Penticton Herald

copy of the penticton heraldThe Penticton Herald is a newspaper that has been around since way back in 1906.

People of the Okanagan and other areas of British Columbia and Canada still enjoy reading this popular paper.

Continental Newspapers Canada Ltd. owns this paper. The Daily Courier (Kelowna BC) and the Chronicle Journal (Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada) are a couple of other notable publications this company produces.

Ask any Okanagan resident, especially one from the South Okanagan , and I am sure you will find they have picked up and read a copy at one time or another.

It definitely is a classic and continues to be a favourite of many.

And it keeps residents up to date on Okanagan news and other current headlines from here and around the world.

Nowadays, besides the newspaper that is printed and delivered to Okanagan homes there is an online version of the Penticton Herald.

I must admit the internet and a click of a button makes this way of reading your news very convenient in today's world.

There is still a comforting feeling of waking up in the morning, grabbing a coffee and going to retrieving the day's paper off the porch.

This is just my opinion but I am sure there are many who still enjoy this pastime.

A Little History

  • The Herald actually began as the Penticton Press. A man by the name of W.J. Clement published the very first edition of this newspaper on July 21, 1906.

  • The Penticton Press officially changed its name to The Herald on July 2, 1910.

  • As the years unfolded The Herald was being published up to three times a week.

  • It became a five-day a week paper on September 9, 1957. A Saturday edition was added in February of 1989.

  • The Saturday edition was renamed The Okanagan in 1996. It was published along with the Kelowna Daily Courier.

  • A Sunday edition was added in 2000. The Herald is now only one of a few British Columbia Newspapers to publish seven days a week.
