Okanagan BC Camping
Outdoor Fun

Okanagan BC camping is fun, exciting and a bonding experience for the whole family.

My personal experience with camping in the Okanagan goes back many years and was one of the main reasons I decided to make this area my home.

I have so many memories from when I used to vacation here and I still look forward to which Okanagan campground will I spend a week or two at each year.

I can't think of a better way to enjoy the great outdoors than packing up your camping gear and heading out to one of many campgrounds that are available here in the beautiful Okanagan.

There are BC campgrounds that are right next to lakes, beaches, mountains and even golf courses.

I find the best camping is the RV and tenting sites that sit close by the lake.

Where you like to camp is your choice and there are a plenty of them.

  • Provincial Parks
  • RV Parks
  • Private campgrounds
  • BC Forest Service Areas
  • Resorts

Wherever you decide to go Okanagan BC camping offers so many things to do and enjoy.

Camping also gives you the opportunity to get away from it all and "recharge the batteries" as some like to call it.

When To Go Camping

Okanagan BC camping usually begins in the early part of May and lasts until early September . Of course this is all dependent on the weather and when facilities are open at the different campgrounds.

There are even some sites that are open year-round. With the great weather we enjoy here in the Okanagan some people start their camping season as early as April.

You will find the months of July and August as the busiest times. And of course the long holiday weekends we enjoy here in Canada fill up the campgrounds to full capacity.

Reservations are always a good idea so you can book ahead and when the time comes you will be able to relax and experience the best in Okanagan BC camping from the moment you arrive.

So if you want to escape the crowds and find a good camping spot you can still enjoy our great Okanagan weather and book your holiday in May, June, September or October.

The nights may be a little cooler in the early fall months but the days are usually still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors. Many of the campgrounds have campfires so those chillier nights are a perfect time to start one up and keep warm.

Tips For Your Camping Trip

There are some important things to know that will go a long way to make your stay at one of the Okanagan campgrounds a pleasurable experience.

The Visitor Centres in each of the Okanagan communities are probably the best places to get general information about each campground's facilities, fees and reservations.

Their are maps, brochures and pamphlets on camping and anything related to the Okanagan and the province of British Columbia.

There is also the very helpful and knowledgeable staff if you have any questions.

  • Campfires are permitted in some campgrounds. There are times, though, when the hot, dry Okanagan summer takes its toll and there are campfire bans in effect.

You can always check ahead before your trip if this is the case. This sometimes puts a damper on things as campfires are part of the whole camping experience.

But past forest fires here in the Okanagan have been catastrophic so if this helps in preventing another one this is good for every camper out there.

  • Some campgrounds allow you to bring your pet along with you. So check with the site before you book a spot if your furry friend is going to be included on your family vacation.

  • Following the rules of the campground you are going to be staying at will ensure everyone has a great time and that all Okanagan campers get along with their neighbours.

You will always find rules listed at any campgrounds check-in facility. Many campgrounds have their own websites and they have their rules listed online.

  • I have always found any campsite I have reserved to be clean and tidy when I have arrived. This is common courtesy and I appreciate the camper before me taking the time to clean up any mess they may have made.
